It is an organic synthesis intermediate used in the pharmaceutical industry for the manufacture of anti-anginal medicine nitropyridine (Nifedipine); its nitro group is reduced to amino group to become anthranilamine, which can be used to synthesize quinoline ring drugs. 2-Nitrobenzaldehyde is mainly used for pharmaceutical and dye intermediates. 2-Nitrobenzaldeh yde gas been shown to be a useful photoremovable protecting group as well as in the preparation of more effective ones such as o-Nitrophenylethylene glycol. It is used as an intermediate during the synthesis of Indigo dye. It is involved in the preparation of colorants such as Indigo carmine. Further, it serves as a useful photoremovable protecting group as well as utilized in the preparation of o-nitrophenylethylene glycol.
