2-Nitroimidazole (CAS: 527-73-1) is used as an intermediate in organic synthesis. It is the basic raw material for the synthesis and manufacture of nitroimidazole compounds in electrophilic radiosensitizers. N-substituted derivatives prepared from 2-Nitroimidazole have been used as antitumor radiosensitizers in clinical studies. 2-Nitroimidazole is an important intermediate in a variety of tumor radiotherapy sensitizers, such as Misonidazole, Pimonidazole, Etanidazole, etc. 2-Nitroimidazole is a antibiotic substance produced by an unidentified Streptomyces,it is used to prepare nitroimidazole substituted boronic acids as precursors for imaging hypoxic tissue 1. It is also used to prepare potential site-selective radiosensitizers for estrogen receptor-rich tumors.
