Titanium(IV) Isopropoxide (TTIP) (CAS: 546-68-9) is colorless to light yellow clear liquid. TTIP is a titanium-based coordination compound. Smoke in moist air. Water rapid hydrolysis, soluble in alcohol, ether, ketone, benzene and other organic solvents. In case of high heat, open flame or contact with oxidant, there is a risk of combustion. The reaction with water or water vapor gives off a toxic or flammable gas. In case of high fever, the internal pressure of the container increases, and there is a risk of cracking and explosion.
The catalyst for the esterification reaction is used for the transesterification reaction of esters such as acrylic acid and the polymerization of epoxy resin, phenolic plastic, silicone resin, polybutadiene, PP and PE. Can also be used as raw materials for the pharmaceutical industry and the preparation of metal and rubber, metal and plastic adhesives. It can also be used as surface modifier, adhesion promoter and paraffin and oil additives.
A precursor for the preparation of Titania. Commonly used as a precursor for the preparation of Titania (TiO2). Novel metal oxide/phosphonate hybrids were formed from titanium(IV) isopropoxide in a two-step sol-gel process. Starting material for barium-strontium-titanate thin films. Used to make porous titanosilicates, potential ion-exchange materials for cleanup of radioactive wastes. Applied in the formation of a heterosupermolecule consisting of a TiO2 nanocrystallite-viologen electron acceptor complexwhose light-induced electron transfer has been demonstrated.
TIPT is a type of very lively primary alcohol titanium oxide; it hydrolyzes when contacted with moisture in air. TIPT is mainly used as catalyst in esterification reaction or transesterification, also being used as catalyst of polyolefin. It can be used to improve the adherence and crosslinking of resin having alcohol group or carboxyl group, used in heat resistant and corrosion resistant coating. It also can be used in the manufacture of glass and glass fiber. TIPT can only be used in oil system.
Applications:
Coating: Glass, metals, fillers and pigments can be treated with TIPT to give increased surface hardness; adhesion promotion; heat, chemical and scratch resistance; coloring effects; light reflection; iridescence; and corrosion resistance.
Paint additive: TIPT can be used as an additive in paints to cross-link -OH functional polymers or binders; to promote adhesion; or to act as a binder itself.
TiO2 pigments and films: Micro- or nano-scale TiO2 pigments can be formed from TIPT. It can also be used to create a polymeric TiO2 film on surfaces via pyrolytic or hydrolytic processes.
Rat oral LD50: 7460mg/kg. May cause irritation to eyes, skin, inhalation, ingestion or percutaneous absorption may be harmful to the body. This substance is harmful to the environment, and special attention should be paid to the pollution of water bodies. Stored in a high-dryness clean warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat source. The bin temperature should not exceed 30℃. Protection from direct sunlight. The packaging must be sealed and free from moisture. Should be stored separately from the oxidant.
Titanium Tetrachloride, Isopropyl Alcohol, and liquid Ammonia were heated and dissolved in toluene as a solvent to undergo an esterification reaction. The reaction product was filtered off by-product ammonium chloride by suction, and the product was obtained by distillation.
Highly flammable. Fumes in air. Soluble in water. Decomposes rapidly in water to form flammable isopropyl alcohol.
Metal alkyls, such as TETRAISOPROPYL TITANATE, are reducing agents and react rapidly and dangerously with oxygen and with other oxidizing agents, even weak ones. Thus, they are likely to ignite on contact with alcohols.
Inhalation or contact with material may irritate or burn skin and eyes. Fire may produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases. Vapors may cause dizziness or suffocation. Runoff from fire control or dilution water may cause pollution.
Flammable.
