(R)-(+)-BINAP can serve as an effective ligand for transition metal-catalyzed asymmetric reactions, including hydrogenation and dimethylsilylation. BINAP and its rhodium and ruthenium derivatives can be used as highly selective homogeneous catalysts for aryl ketones, reduction of β-ketoesters and α-aminoketones. It can also be used in asymmetric hydrogenation and hydroformylation reactions of olefins, asymmetric Heck reactions and asymmetric isomerization reactions of allyl groups.
