Azelastine Hydrochloride is a H1 histamine receptor antagonist and NF-kB activator. Azelastine hydrochloride has been used in a study to investigate the potential of polymeric microspheres for treatment of allergic conjunctivitis. Azelastine HCl is an Histamine H1 Receptor (H1-receptor) antagonist, with antiallergic effects related to histamine antagonism, and further antiallergic and antiinflammatory effects unrelated to H1-receptor binding. Azelastine hydrochloride is an orally effective antihistamine useful in the treatment of asthma and nasal allergy. It appears to inhibit release of histamine, in addition to antagonizing its action.
