CTBN is a type of liquid rubber, which contains active carboxyl groups at both ends of the molecular chain, it has the performance of rereaction chain extension, widely used, and it is the best toughening agent for thermosetting resin. CTBN introduces acrylonitrile in the main chain, which has strong polarity, high and low temperature properties and stability, good blending with resin, strong oil resistance and excellent cracking resistance.

Carboxylated-Terminated Liquid Acrylonitrile Rubber (CTBN) (CAS: 68891-46-3) is mainly used as a binder for solid rocket propellants. In addition, CTBN is an excellent toughening modifier for epoxy, phenolic, unsaturated polyester and photosensitive resins. And widely used in aerospace, electronic appliances, automotive high-speed rail, ships, light textile chemical industry and other fields of bonding, sealing, spraying, potting and coating.
CTBN is used to improve the toughness, flexibility, adhesion and impact resistance of thermoset resin systems including epoxies, vinyl esters, unsaturated polyesters, acrylics and urethanes. It improves durability and increases low temperature. The acrylonitrile content varies in these polymers from zero to 26% which directly affects the solubility and glass transition temperature (Tg) of the materials. CTBN is used in film and paste adhesives.
As the component of epoxy-based adhesives, composites and coatings, CTBN can be used as an intermediate in corrosion-resistant vinyl esters, acrylated epoxies used in radiation curing and photopolymer printing plates.
