Benzophenone (CAS: 119-61-9) is a free radical (II) photoinitiator, mainly used in free radical UV curing systems, such as coatings, inks, adhesives, etc. It is also an intermediate for organic pigments, medicines, fragrances, and pesticides. Benzophenone is an intermediate of ultraviolet absorber, ink material, photoinitiator, organic pigment, medicine, perfume and pesticide. Benzophenone is mainly used in free radical UV curing varnish systems, such as UV wood paint, UV paper varnish, UV coatings, UV inks, UV adhesives, etc. Benzophenone is mainly used in the pharmaceutical industry to produce dicyclohexidine, benzotropine hydrobromide, diphenhydramine hydrochloride, etc. It is also a styrene polymerization inhibitor. Benzophenone is used as a fragrance fixer to impart sweetness to spices. It is widely used in perfume and soap flavors, and can be used to formulate almond, peach, butter, coconut and other edible flavors. The recommended dosage in the final flavored food is 0.5~2.4mg/kg. Benzophenone can be used in sunscreen oils/creams in the cosmetics industry. At present, almost all sunscreen products on the market contain benzophenone compounds.
